Burning man has always and will always represent a positive, creative, and inspirational event for us. We are so thankful for the love, the time, and the energy that this event has shared with us. Each and every year is an opportunity to evaluate, modify, and check in with our life’s goals.
Each year we return home from the playa recharged and light on our toes….. prepared for another year of adventure, obstacles, and pleasures. The energy that we bring back keeps our sails blissfully running, skipping, and humming along throughout the entire year .

we love to take pictures. and you know the only thing better than that, is to have people who want to be in those pictures! we are so honored, and so blissed out, to be surrounded by so many amazing people, boys and girls. we spend every last drop of our time: working, learning, observing, creating, and growing. thank goodness we are here to support, love, and help each other out.
you just never know where you will end up, who you will talk to, and who will be interested in shooting for you. And in our case, the next person who shoots with us, ends up being our next friend! We love it.
Which brings me to the dearest Angela. She is a china doll. She is super sweet, we love her dearly, and had such a great time at her shoot! She is very stoic, very calm, and serene. A real turn around from shone shooting people such as myself. I really learned a lot, watching her, and enjoying the peacefulness that she brings.

while preparing for the playa yesterday, more things to add to my list of preparations
some thoughts are coming to my mind…that I thought is best shared in case any of my thoughts can be useful to you while you are finishing up your preparations for the playa.
think through thoroughly what you are staying in. wether it’s a tent, or a trailer, a cardboard box, or an rv. go through everything, make sure you have thought about wind storms, extreme heat, and extreme cold. think about how you will make yourself comfortable, and be prepared.
1. shade structure, are you in a tent or rv. any kind of shade structure helps. again remember the extreme wind that the playa is known for. we have lost an entire dome and theme camp before during a wind storm.
2. if you are in rv or motorhome, think about this. cover all of your windows with foil, and or black plastic paper. The plastic bags can be uses at the end of the week for garbage or packing your dusty clothes home. Tape them up accordingly to easy access later. This will keep your nest dark, shadowed, and you will appreciate the coolness, and the opportunity to sleep regardless of the time of day.
3. If you have an rv, or are using a generator, especially if others are using it, communication is clear. It’s not a great idea to run a microwave, blow dryer, and sound system all at the same time. Most likely you won’t even need your blow dryer, you probably won’t even need to pack it. If you lose or blow out your generator, a blow dryer won’t do you any good, and you would be more thrilled with having power the entire week than not.
**if you are using anything, make sure to talk with your campmates and let them know what is going on in your nest.
4. bring a bike lock, make sure to lock it to your partner, lover, friend, buddy’s, bike. In my experience most people don’t really want to steal your bike, it’s just that sometimes it happens. So be proactive, and take the time to lock up and release on your travels.
5. speaking of bikes, have lots of fun decorating your bike. It is your art car to roam around the playa with. Once your are on the playa riding it, the magic really sets in. I am really having a great time decorating my bike. A few glue gun injuries, but how can it be craft time without a few blisters here and there.
6. make a list of all the things you wish to bring now while they are fresh in your mind. keep going over the list, and check it again, and again, until everything is crossed off, and in place.
7. do you have ear plugs on your list. think about it!!! loud at night, or day, and you wish to take a nap. hmmmmmm, ear plugs are going to be your best friend on the playa.
8. chapstick
9. socks
10. the reno bike project is camping in our village of camps, if you have an issue make sure to find us on the esplanade at 3:30, and we’l point you in there direction.
11. bring a coffee cup. you will enjoy walking to center camp, or one of the keyholes for coffee, you’ll have many opportunities to meet many new friends this way.
12. water, think more not less when packing, and use less not more when on the playa.
13. pack less, know what you are wearing, and pack some comfy clothes for down time and comfort time.
14. keep your skin hydrated. I love to use my skin brush before my showers, and then coconut oil. The great thing about coconut oil or butter is that it’s a natural sun screen. get yourself some!
15. hula hoops! don’t forget your hula hoops! you can rock them at the end up or anywhere for that matters on the playa, there will be lots of music everywhere!
16. bring your own playa cup, keep it on you, so that when you enter camps like ours, or so many that are out on the playa, you’ll have a place for them to fill you up with a yummy beverage. and less waste that way!
17. remember that the playa is upon us, time to take a deep breathe, and start releasing all the effects of the city, town, obligations that you are a part of, start now. don’t wait to get to the playa, you only have precious time while there. use your days for preparations wisely, and blissfully.

naked= freedom: the first year I was set free: burning man 2006
burning man has and will always be such a special event for us. it’s been such a source of self discovery and motivation, and inspiration. together shone and I have felt so in love with life, and have found a great start for our path of explorations throughout this universe. we know that we may or may not always be at burning man…… it is a thought that always keeps us so full of love for this event, and yet so unattached and free in all of the possible events that could ever cross our path. we give it our best each year, and value and cherish every second we have there.
as I am sitting here, going through burning man pictures, putting desktop background up, “exploring”, and drifting back and forth, I started to think about the first time I got naked. Now of course it doesn’t really count if there are only a few others in the room, he he, I mean naked! naked!

2006 on the playa was really magical. It was a labor of passion and unconditional acceptance of each other, environment, weather, and surroundings. that by the end of the week, I felt so cleansed, so free of all the former hang ups of life. I was loving myself more and more, walking taller and more confident in the body that I have, than I had ever done before. It’s an amazing feeling when you expose yourself so vulnerably to a community of friends and strangers who are all “family” in the burning man way.

it felt so great to ride my bike and feel the wind of the day blowing, kissing, and teasing at my breasts and titilating my nipples. It was sensational. The feeling was fantastic! Oh my it felt so magical! I hardly felt naked, in the sense that I did not feel bare, and or vulnerable. I felt triumphant, light as a feather, and so in love with the feeling of being naked and frolicking through a large group of my campmates.

after the burn, shone took me back to camp to put on some warmer clothes for the evening. I strongly recommend having a quick back to your camp refresh and get ready for the night if you plan on ever going naked or anytime you are on the playa.
**remember, you are never in any hurry, the adventures and explorations you are to journey on on the playa can be spontaneous, and all with the flow, the more optimal and cozy you keep yourself, you will have longer endurance on the playa, and you will be able to be more present with all of the magical things going on around you.
**remember…..once it gets cold, it’s really difficult to get warm.

It still feels like it was yesterday. The feelings and sensations will be embedded in my brain and on my skin for eternity!

I know you are all so excitedly looking forward to the playa! Keep remembering to think well throughout your camping plans, down to the smallest of details, plan, make lists, think simple, and think efficient. Pack as less waste, wrappings, boxes, tags, ect. The less you take out, the less you have to bring back. The playa can present many challenges, and it’s the challenges that really make the experiences so rewardable. It is best to be prepared and to have a plan. Keep your mind and wits to you our dear friends, the playa is so full of extreme, and beautiful adventures, don’t waste a single moment with improper planning.
and always, remember that you are there for yourselves just as much as anything. stop…. breathe……. take in all of the sensory in your surroundings. open your mind, open your hearts, let the love and the beauty in. step out of some comfort zones, break a little of your tough surroundings, and experience what the playa has waiting for you.
shine your light for your family who is all working so hard to get themselves to the playa to see. Think at this very moment how much purpose and intentions are going on out there for the playa. Many people go through the impossible just to get there. Be welcoming, and adoring to your neighbors and new friends you shall meet!

POTD: El Papa Chango
we had the most delightful adventure saturday night before the event got under way at the GSR. shone and I were on a date, and decided to go out to dinner together before we went and watched the glitch mob, anasia, and el papa chango, a new dj that we had not heard of before play. always so exciting to hear somebody new!
we walk into the restaurant, and sitting together are the lovely and magical anasia, kraddy of glitch mob, and some new faces. the new face was diego, aka “el papa chango“. and some lovely goddesses that forgive me, I cannot remember their names. All I can say is that they were beautiful!!!! and their energies were enchanting. And there was one other guy, who had such a handsome face. Sorry that I cannot remember the names!!!!
learned that kraddy is a vegan. learned that anasia had never seen a male review before, and while we were at dinner ran over to check it out. she came back with a huge smile! “ARE YOU HORNY” is what she brought back with her, along with a story of an elderly woman grinding on stage on some young hotness. It was so great to see her so animated!
and FYI-learned that anasia is coming to the playa, she wasn’t going to this year, and now she is, she will be doing some work with sasha “butterfly” rose! oh I hope we find them on friday!!!!
diego aka el papa chango was a pleasure to meet as well. we were eagerly waiting to hear him play.
what a delight it was too! his music, is so sexy, so different than other sets we have heard other dj’s play. He opened up the night, and it was so delicious! we really look forward to hearing him again!! and again and again. he is a part of el circo, a performance troupe and production company, along with random rab and bassnectar. delicious!

playa tip 1: photo etiquette on the playa
when it comes to pictures on the playa, there are a few respectful guidelines that one should follow. we feel the need to share some love, and to encourage all of you who will be attending the playa, to please keep some things in mind. we are all out there to enjoy, share, celebrate, love, laugh, release, explore, express, have fun, and make memories.
it’s a great time to capture pictures of events, art pieces, art cars, new friends, old friends, sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, explosions, etc. we highly encourage you to capture your memories, they are great desktop backgrounds, wallpapers, surroundings, to have, to keep around to keep you inspired and connected throughout the rest of the year while you are not on the playa.
we would like to spread these messages:
1. when you are out with your camera, please be kind and gentle with your community. always remember to ask if it is okay to take a picture of the individuals you are wanting to take pictures of. sometimes simple eye contact, a point to the camera, and a nodd from both parties is adequate. but please take the time, the love, and the patience to do so.
now sometimes we understand that there is a group activity or something going on and you can’t run around and get everybody’s permission. just keep in mind what activity it is. are your intentions kind and loving with what you will do with the photos you take of these bulk gatherings? and their activities? or is it just best to let them be, and know that not everything is meant to be captured.

please be considerate to the individuals on the playa who are not seeking out photographers. about half of the population loves, wants, and adores to be in your photos!!!! and about half of the population does not. we would like to remind everybody of their privacy and space. remember KARMA.
**we’ll give you a hint, the ones all dressed up, who take so much time and effort to create their costumes, and or who are performing on the playa, have super duper art bikes, art cars, and or art projects, LOVE to have their pictures taken! and there are over 30,000 of them, so you will have plenty of magically delicious, self expressing earthlings to take pictures of. never fear, there will be plenty.
we have been shooting on the playa for 4 years now, and the love and connections we exchange and and make, they are unlike anywhere else. a great example:
about three years ago, there was this striking guy and girl walking down the esplanade while we were all sitting up close in our “movie theater” chairs. (our camp had been destroyed by the wind, the wind literally crushing the dome) so since we didn’t have an inside location, we chose to sit up and enjoy the new movie theater in our view. while they were walking by, shone approached them and politely asked if he could take their picture……….
sometime later that year we met a remarkable fire performer. he was full of energy, bounced off the walls, and never stopped moving his fingers and poi as fast as he could move and talk. so much energy, so many ideas. a true human connecter, and immediately introduced us to all of the boys and girls he was playing with! (that’s a whole other story!) ryano instantly became my brother from another mother, he was everything in a guy that I was in a girl. whenever we get together, we start getting all silly, pumped up, and moving at a bazillion miles per hour!
one night ryano brought his current girlfriend over to do a shoot with us! an amazing ballerina, fire performer, and magician. we had such a great time, and she was extremely creative. we really loved the part when she took all of her clothes off and covered herself in baby powder, and then proceeded to go on point, (that’s a ballet term, for up on the tippy tops of the toes!) about a year after that, when we posted the picture below (click on it for larger version) as picture of the day, POTD: this picture had been on our computer slideshow screen saver for over a year, and it finally hit all of us at one time. Ryano recognized himself of course and rachel, remembered the exact moment when we took the picture, and mentioned that he even remembered us!! we saw the picture, and was so wonderfully filled with bliss!! Ryano and Rachel had crossed our once before that we know of, and are now great friends and family.
shone remembered them as well. that year on the playa we took 300 pictures. it was such a magical year, a year that will always mean so much to us, and a year that brought so much magic and amazing people to our path. so please remember this, be kind and conscious of the people you are shooting, they just may turn out to be your family.
ryano is now one of the four burning man regionals in our area, and has been the driving energy for the shiva vista project.

2. please keep in mind other artists who are creating, especially when you see a camera or video camera in their hands. if they are out in the playa, setting up a picture, or a photo shoot, or a movie set, we would like to recommend to you to be super kind. please understand that this is this artist’s one day, one hour, out of the year that has this opportunity, and more than likely took quite some time and effort to put their vision together, always remember to ask them if you are planning or thinking that you want to walk up on them and just start shooting away. don’t step in front of their shooting frames, and please do not disturb. if you wish to talk to the artist, please wait until he or she is finished with their participant and or project. you just never know what you might get if you wait patiently, and then ask to take a picture
people are all so very kind and rewarding with love. it’s really simple, just be kind and present of your location, and intentions while taking pictures on the playa.
and remember to register your cameras, and or video cameras at media mecca. You can do it online and bring your form, or fill it out when you are there. by registering your camera, you are acknowledging your participation and respect for the burning man participants. you will get a colored tagging on your equipment, and will make your encounters with others much easier. please take the time.

Just got our confirmation today for our theme camp placement! 3:30 and the Esplanade! Oh how we love being on the esplanade. I have camped on the esplanade going to be 4 out of the 6 times that I will have camped at burning man now.
Why do I love to camp on the esplanade! because i’ve always liked having an big open back yard to play in! It’s also the greatest interactive playground on the planet!

Been spending a lot of time lately planning, organizing, and finishing projects for our camp this year. It has been my personal biggest undertaking yet, and I am loving every bit of it! We are surrounded by the greatest community of people in the world. Ready, waiting, and able to help me at anytime we have a question, or need a task taking care of!
So much love is surrounding our camp, from every process of thinking out, and planning, and who all is camping with us. This year feels so amazing. So many things have lined up from so many years of our large group of beautiful people coming together!
Might I add, thank you all for your love and energy and participating on planetboho with us, sharing your love, and staying in communication with us so that we can make this process as smooth as possible!!!
Burning man has truly been such a gift of love, and community, it has made this entire process of self discovery and life exploration so pleasurable. The magic comes from the journey!
