really needing to start preparing for the festival lightning in a bottle.
Last year I felt that I brought too many clothes, was not completely organized, and because of the unpreparedness, felt like I was never really prepared for much of anything.
So this year, I am preparing much better and simpler for lightning in a bottle and burning man. (maybe shambhala and or earth dance-keeping my fingers crossed)
1. This year, we are getting an air mattress and not sleeping on the 1 inch pads that we used last year, I love the earth, but I don’t really like to sleep on it.
2. One of my favorite things to have on the playa is my warmy. (thank you Tina for introducing me so long ago!!) and shone is figuring out how to provide me with a warmy at LIB. It’s cold at night when you crawl into that sleeping bag. I sleep better when I have some warmth.
3. I am having a flower making party so that I have lots of beautiful flowered hair clips to wear in my hair! and to share with friends new and old at the forest. Ladies if you are reading this list, I am planning the little get together her Friday May 9th. Let me know if you are coming.
4. head lamps- porta-potties are much better navigated if you have a head lamp, kind of hard to take care of everything with just one hand while the other holds a flash light, if you know what I mean!
5. camel pack-although the distance is not too far and LIB is providing water tanks to fill our water up with, I am still bringing my camel pack. I love to put my chap stick, handi wipes, glitter, vibrator, (you never know when you will want it, but you should always knows it’s there!) emergency toilet paper, rubber bands, “ganga” my hippie loving energy!, and anything else that is important for my adventure.
**this is like goldy locks, you need to get the one thats just right, too heavy too big, too small, doesn’t cut it, figure out what you need to have on you at all times, and fit it all in the smallest size you can.
6. bronners soap, skin brush, toothbrush, a razor, and olive oil. I have limited my traveling needs to just a few necessary items. with these tools I can successfully take a shower, wash my hair, shave my needed areas, maintain soft and healthy skin, and have fresh clean teeth. (I could even wash the dishes too! and if it should get in the earth, (which it does) it is all organic, and made of ingrediants that are harmonious with the planet, and break down harmoniously.)
7. ipod- have to have good vibrations on a road trip like this. I need to add some more to it too!
8. nag champa/sage- nothing quite as comforting as lighting some nag champa or sage on a camping trip, makes you feel like you are at home
9. tube socks- I am so particular about my feet. I like to keep them smooth and soft. I love it when shone sucks on my toes. It is so hot! and I could not imagine not having soft and kissable and lickable feet.
10. warm and durable pair or boots- highly recommend good boots for festivals. Especially at night when it gets cold. (you know as long as you wear a hat and boots and tube socks, you can get a way with wearing less clothing.) still looking for a new pair of long lace up for zip up boots. like black or light or dark brown. any suggestions?
11. I really love my pilates pants that I use to wear when I taught pilates classes. the material is stretchy, and I like to be able to move and be comfortable when I need to wear more clothes. Although I prefer wearing hardly any clothes. It just feels better. but when I do, and it’s important to be able to dress warm for the night. I’ve ran into too many limiting factors based upon my lack of preparedness for the night time. (and in these pants, I still feel sexy, and not all covered up)
12. a couple of long sleeve shirts- great for layering at night
13. a vest
14. sexy, small fitting items that are colorful and still appropriate to wear at a festival where there is no nudity allowed. (i’ll get as close as I can with out pushing it, I’ve already run into too many problems, I’ve really learned how to maintain.)
15. gloves-shone and I both have a pair of wool gloves with the fingers cut out. super for adventures
16. ladies only- remember ladies, if you need your special items, to bring a zip lock bag, you cannot dispose of those items in the porta potties, it clogs them up. be kind to the magical people putting on the party, and don’t plug up the porta-potties. please be prepared. on those times, I always bring my goddess purse. One that is equipped with everything I need to optimize those times.
17. small digital camera
18. ear plugs
19. mirror-everybody can use a good mirror at a festival
20. journal-to capture any stickers or any other swag
21. seeing that I have no cell phone, but am crossing my fingers for an iphone and we won’t have a lap top for this festival, (boy I hope we can save up enough to get one soon), I won’t be updating about any of our experiences during LIB. so in this case I don’t need to bring my lap top. I really hope that this is the last festival that I don’t have a lap top.
22. sexy panties. I like to surprise shone with some treats. He likes the silky kind, and the more I wear them, the more he likes to rub and play with them.
23. sleeping bag- I got one at R.E.I. last year, it’s purple and blue! I love it!
24. pillow
25. I guess I need to bring some pj’s, so I can have something warm to sleep in at night. Honestly, I really want a pair of the ones that have the feet built into them! If anybody knows of a place to get some, let me know.
26. I am really into clear mascara lately. The older I get, the less maintenance I am becoming. I don’t have the ability to focus on makeup, (and Kendra can’t make this trip) but I love to go without lots of makeup. My face and skin feel so free! I do enjoy when it’s time to play and dress up with makeup too, however I prefer not to wear it for the majority of the time.
27. towel/thongs/small basket with holes- for the shower, (basket holds everything so that the water drains out.
28. sunscreen-although I am not a big fan of it, I think at times people over use it, we need our vitamin d, however I like to apply once in a while if I am out in the sun for longer periods of time, especially when I have not been out in the sun for a while. looking for an organic plant based one..any suggestions?
26. this trip provides both vegetarian and raw vegan food. organic beer and wine. I am going to enjoy these extras! We will pack some snacks. Mainly non perishable items, and rely on the festival for yummy and delicious nourishments. this really is like a dream come true. a magical forest, with amazing night and day passionate performances by amazing artists, and healthy and alive foods!
1. I will pack bananas and oranges and a jar of raw almond butter-they are some of my new comfort foods
2. I want to get some goji berries, oh and there were these yummy chocolate and goji berry treats we got at harmony music festival last year. I hope to find some of those. Little chocolate balls of raw delight!
3. I want to find a whole foods on the way down. anybody know of one on the way to santa barbara from reno? I am terrible with directions, and now that shone and I are together 24/7 I never need to drive anymore, and have not for the past 6 months or so.
4. Yerba Matte- I will make sun tea yerba matte for us to drink while at the festival
